TALKING POINT

ChatGPT: Yay or nay?

We know that AI is improving by the day (pretty much), and ChatGPT is the latest chatbot on the block. It’s being called a “technological game-changer”, but what does this mean for our jobs?

The OpenAI-created model can generate content, like poems, essays and even whole books, as well as debug code, answer queries, and more. Eventually, it will probably be able to perform your job as well as you can, meaning your job could be at risk. However, there are also some pros to consider. ChatGPT will assist you in your role, meaning you can work with greater efficiency and it can relieve you of your time.

What do you think? Are you yay or nay for ChatGPT?

QUOTE OF THE DAY

TODAY'S ADVICE

Seeking career growth? Read more books

book-abstract

Do you ever go home at the end of a long day, collapse on the couch and do nothing? “Every day” you say? Okay, we hear you!

But we’d like to make a suggestion: instead of reaching for your mobile, how about grabbing a book?

Sure, scrolling through social media feeds doesn’t need a lot of effort. But reading books comes with many more benefits. So, let’s talk about books and what they can do for your career!

1. You gain knowledge. Reading books is a good way to boost your proficiency around a subject. Success stories, guides and other non-fiction books can be incredibly insightful and help you move up the ladder.

2. It improves your concentration. Professional success relies on consistency. But if you struggle to stay focused for more than 10 minutes at a time, consistency goes down the drain. To boost your memory and attention span, make time to read more frequently.

3. It reduces stress. Ah, stress: the epidemic of our time. It doesn’t matter how determined you are to succeed, things will only become worse if you don’t manage your stress. So, how about you relax that tired mind of yours while reading a book?

4. It teaches empathy. Reading, particularly non-fiction, exposes you to different perspectives. The more you increase your emotional intelligence this way, the better you’ll be. Why? Well, your career progression depends on the quality of your interpersonal relationships.

What’s for lunch? Our top foods for a productive day

It’s 11am and your tummy is already growling. If daydreaming about lunchtime were a task, you’d be crushing it. But a cereal bar and three espressos might not be the invigorating set menu you think.

At work, it’s best to choose slow-burning foods — in other words, foods that keep you full for longer. This will help you focus and perform better. Some examples are:

🥖 Complex carbs: The only “complex” thing that’s desirable at work. Complex carbs include legumes, vegetables and grains.

🍗 Protein: Protein is essential for good cognitive function. Depending on your preferences, opt in for some lean meat, tofu or eggs.

🥜 Healthy fats: Fats may have a bad rep but they can be good for you. Nuts, seeds and fish are some excellent sources. Although office etiquette suggests you keep away from the latter at work.
