TALKING POINT

The leadership gap is no joke

leadership gap

Baby Boomers — people born between 1946 and 1964 — are expected to be out of the workforce within the next 10 years. As this generation approaches retirement, however, not a lot is being done to prepare the next generation of leaders to take over. 💼

Baby Boomers have been in the workforce much longer than previous generations. This has meant that they have held onto their positions longer, too, which has led the next in line (Gen X) to receive fewer promotions over their careers.

And although the ones after them — Millennials — have fared somewhat better than Gen Xers where promotions are concerned, they’re already burning out like tealights in the wind. DDI’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Report states that 70 % of young leaders feel “used up” by the end of the workday. 😪

This begs the question of who exactly is meant to lead the workforce in a decade’s time if younger generations aren’t being given enough opportunities nor support?

TODAY’S ADVICE

Résumé tips: Picking the right builder 🛠️

Résumé builders, also called résumé makers, can help ensure that your résumé beats the ATS and lands in front of the hiring manager’s eyes. With so many options out there, however, how do you pick the right one? We have some tips to share:

  • Consider how credible the website looks. If there are grammatical errors, the information is vague and the layout looks outdated, it’s probably best to steer away. ❌

  • Read testimonials on reviews sites. Seeing what other professionals have to say about a service or product is always a good place to start. 💭

  • Read the fine print. Make sure you’re not unwittingly being signed up for a subscription or making a payment that can’t be reversed if you’re not satisfied. 🔍
